New Prints Released!
As you are aware, I spend most of my time creating works of art on upcycled surfboards - usually to generate a captured "moment in time" for a client. Every now and then I make the time to paint a board just for me, with recent examples being "Willow the Whale Shark" and "Emmie the Sea Turtle".
Lately, I have been experimenting with a capturing images from my surfboards to use as prints. The success of this depends mainly on the surfboard being used - wider boards with relatively smooth surfaces seem to work best. I have decided to release the results of my efforts in capturing a printable image from two of my latest boards, and prints of these can now be ordered from my gallery. Like all of my prints, they are print on demand so please allow a week or two lead time if ordering for a special occasion!
The original "Chunk the Sea Turtle" was painted for a client on a 6’4” Full Force surfboard shaped by Steve Barber on the Gold Coast, that was surfed all over Australia before a premature retirement to the shed. After languishing in storage for a few years it was the victim of a shed de-clutter and found its way onto my easel. It provided the perfect canvas for this painting of "Chunk the Sea Turtle". Chunk is a very special turtle, having survived an encounter with a Tiger Shark that left him missing a piece of his shell. He was named Chunk by the family who commissioned this painting in his honour to preserve forever his spirt of resilience and never giving in. Chunk helped to keep one more surfboard out landfill, and will help keep conservation efforts for sea turtles going with a small donation being made for every print sold.

The image for "Emmie the Sea Turtle" was captured from a hand-painted, upcycled surfboard featuring an underwater scene from Ningaloo Reef. "Emmie the Sea Turtle" is a split view composition, with Emmie seen swimming in the warm waters of the Ningaloo Reef lagoon. She was painted on an upcycled Burton Batfish surfboard that was surfed throughout Australia and Indonesia, but then languished at the back of the board rack for the last 10 years or so. The unique bat tail and wide dimensions of this board was a perfect canvas on which to paint Emmie. This is a special piece of art as Emmie is named after my Nanna who passed away recently. The print captures the essence of Emmie's unwavering spirit, and will also help towards funding sea turtle conservation efforts. Click the link below to order your own Emmie print:
