Why Collect Art?
There are so many ways to appreciate art! But it can be confusing about what to choose if you are in love with a particular piece of art!
Original Art
I think there is something extra special about owning a piece of original art. This is especially so when it comes to commissions. Owning an original piece offers a unique and personal connection to the artist's work.
An original painting is almost always going to come with a higher price tag than a print due to their uniqueness and the time invested by the artist. These pieces are typically one-of-a-kind and can appreciate in value over time, making them a potential investment. Most of my bigger pieces like the surfboards take more than 100 hours to complete.
Prints
Prints have advantages beyond their lower price tag though. Say you love an original painting but it’s just too huge to fit in your home - prints and canvas prints can come in a variety of sizes so you can still enjoy that artwork that you love!
Limited edition prints, especially those hand-signed by the artist, can still hold significant value. All of my prints are limited editions and the high print quality allows for excellent detail and colour saturation on surfaces like paper or canvas. I sign and title all the editions as I would an original and they all come with a certificate of authenticity.
So what do I choose?
Some people like to collect just 'Original' artwork enjoying owning the rich uniqueness of an original painting. Others like to build a collection from different artists so fine art prints are a wonderful alternative to the extra cost of purchasing an original.
The most important thing when it comes to art is that you love it. Regardless of your choice, you can be sure you’re supporting the artist with every purchase you make, whether it’s an original or a print, and that piece of art will be brightening up your home for years to come!
